Hollywood Fringe Award Winning Director and LA Weekly Awards Nominated Director Hoping for a Hat-Trick with ‘Double Bind’ at the 2013 Hollywood Fringe Festival

Hollywood’s hottest new drama play ‘Double Bind’ (www.doublebindtheplay.com) premieres at the 2013 Hollywood Fringe Festival, directed by the award winning director and LA Weekly Awards nominated director Aaron Lyons at the Asylum Theatre, 6320 Santa Monica Boulevard, CA90038 .

Written by actor Blake Shields Abramovitz, ‘Double Bind’ is a two-act drama in the tradition of Sam Shepard and David Rabe. It focuses on two friends, Sam (Clark Freeman) and Frank (Blake Shields Abramovitz), who once traveled the world together having all kinds of wild adventures. They chased women, took mind-expanding drugs, and made music together. As the play begins, Sam, an intellectual and a poet at heart, has settled down with a serious, passionate woman, Laura (Ceri Bethan), and a real job. Frank, a charismatic but profoundly damaged street-singer and hustler, is still out living his unbridled neo-beatnik life. But he desperately misses the only true friend he ever had; and so he shows up and sets about trying to upend Sam and Laura’s incipient cozy life.

“This project feels worth my fleeting time here.” said Abramowitz, who is making his playwright debut at this year’s Fringe Fest. “By plumbing the recesses of my own pain and attempting to elevate it into the realm of art, and by using understandings I have arrived at through therapy and spiritual practices such as Buddhist Insight meditation to inform the process, I hope to make a worthwhile contribution to my community.”

‘Double Bind’s’ director Aaron Lyons took home the ‘Best World Premiere’ award at the 2012 Hollywood Fringe for his production of ‘Rise’ and in 2011 he won the Hollywood Fringe Festival 2011 ‘Best of Fringe’ and was nominated for two LA Weekly Awards, including Best Comedic Ensemble for directing the critically acclaimed ‘Pulp Shakespeare’.

Audiences can see ‘Double Bind’ at the Asylum Theatre, 6320 Santa Monica Boulevard on June 17th at 7:00pm, June 24th and 28th at 8:30pm with the final performance on June 30th at 4:00pm.
