On any given night(and day), the entertainment capital of the world-Hollywood will be host to a dizzying array of red carpet premiere events to generate excitement for a film, television series or a video game release. Event and celebrity photographers are challenged to cover all of the events and sometimes need to pick and choose which of the red carpet functions they will cover. One such event that this Examiner.com columnist was thrilled and inspired to cover was the premiere of The Magic Bracelet.

The Magic Bracelet tells the story of a friendship between two teenage girls and their connection to a bracelet that may indeed be magical. One of the girls has Mitochondrial disease and the bracelet’s properties may contain what she needs to deal with the disease. The short film was produced by Make A Film Foundation which exists solely for the purpose of fulfilling the film wishes of children with often terminal diseases. The Magic Bracelet was written by Rina Goldberg whose dying wish was to see her story made into a film. Unfortunately Rina succumbed to the disease on December 29, 2010 at the age of fifteen. Her parents kept her dying wish and handed her story over to the foundation who proceeded to make the film with an impressive star studded cast.

On the night of May 18, 2013-attendees were finally able to see the results of Rina’s dream and the film’s talented cast. The red carpet event was held at the Writer’s Guild Theater located in Beverly Hills, California. The event was organized and executed by one of the industry’s most well-known publicists, Liz Rodriguez who heads up the firm EMR Media. The night began earlier than scheduled(which is very rare) with an amazing amount of talent that walked the carpet in support of the film and the memory of Rina Goldberg.
It was appropriate and immensely moving that the first to walk the carpet were the parents of Rina-Stacy and Ari Goldberg. The Goldbergs were thankful for all of the attention and put their best face forward as they posed for the photographers on the red carpet press line. The Magic Bracelet has an official theme song and it is called, “7 Wonders”. The song’s writer and singer, Vasi Hunton closely followed behind the Goldbergs. The young blonde would later stun the audience with her rendition of her song which left not a dry eye in the house.

One of the surprising guests to walk the carpet was Victor Orlando who was with the music group, The Gap Band throughout the eighties. Orlando is currently an actor and he has a part in an upcoming Richard Pryor biography film project with an unknown release date as of this moment. He was the gentleman with the most original suit presentation that stunned all the photographers present. He was dressed in a tailor made leather form fitting ensemble that was highlighted by the most astonishing rose painted boots.

Approximately forty minutes into the red carpet show, the stars of The Magic Bracelet entered. Famed and celebrated character actor, J.K. Simmons enlivened the carpet with his quick sense of wit and flattering comments that he had directed towards the photographers on the photo line. Screenwriting sensation, Diablo Cody was next to walk the carpet. Cody accepted the assignment for Make a Film Foundation to transform Rina Goldberg’s story to a screenplay that enabled director, Jon Poll to film.

The movie’s two young stars were the next individuals to walk the promotional line. Hailee Steinfeld and Bailee Madison play the two friends of the film and instantly became the darlings of all the photographers on the line. Perfectly relaxed in this sometimes volatile red carpet situation, the girls proved to be complete professionals as they warmly smiled and chatted with the press. The film’s producers could not have found more suitable and amicable ambassadors for the film’s message than this two rising young actresses.

Beyond the night of stars and glamour, the message that was conveyed by a remarkably brave and intelligent young girl called Rina Goldberg was not forgotten. She leaves us with this statement of optimism: Always love life. Dream big. Remember to always have a “be positive” attitude. Remember to laugh and smile. I’ll always remember you.
