Aparna Sens’ latest Award Winning Movie ~
HOLLYWOOD (November 7th , 2010) – Showcased at the 31st Annual American Film Market (AFM), Writer and Director Aparna Sens, winner of 12 awards and 2 nominations, collects yet another award for her latest movie, “The Japanese Wife”, at the recently-concluded Hidden Gems Film Festival in Calgary, Canada. Aparna Sens is a renowned name in Bengali as well as in Indian movies. She has excelled both as an actor in film and theatre and as a director of parallel cinema, “The Japanese Wife” is her latest contribution to Indian cinema in English, Bengali and Japanese.
Based on a true story “The Japanese Wife” is a romantic drama between a Bengali bhadra-lok from rural Bengal Snehmoy (Rahul Bose) and his Japanese pen-pal Miyage (Chigusa Takaku) who embark on a long-distance ‘marriage’ after an abundance of letters. This tale takes us through their lives as they both remain true and loyal to each other, while never actually meeting.
The film, which is being distributed in North America by Databazaar Media Ventures (DMV), was awarded the stunning Amolite Trophy, which is the official gemstone of the Province of Alberta. “We knew that the film would do well at the festival, but it was beyond our comprehension that 92% would vote in its favor” says: DMV Chairman Oney Seal “We are just overjoyed to be bringing this wonderful cinematic movie to America for both the Indian, American and Canadian communities.”
The Hidden Gems Festival, which boasts a distinguished jury who generally selects the movie, this year had the audience vote. Festival Director Niru Bhatia hailed the film as a “Love poem on celluloid.” She added: “The Taj Mahal is known as the love poem in marbles, if you want to see a love poem on celluloid, see Aparna Sens “The Japanese Wife.”
DMV acts as an exclusive gateway for Bengali and other Indian films to North America and Canada, combining the latest in digital technologies with the best in traditional methods in a new, fusion distribution model that will maximize North American film revenues.
